With the fast-paced, high-pressure lives that many of us lead, full of hefty job and family responsibilities, it’s no wonder that we sometimes feel stressed to the limit and out of control of our lives we all have to live with stress, affect both mind and mind and body fortunately, you can gain control of your life slow things down, and curb stress, stress doesn’t just arise from unpleasant, aggravating events. Positive happenings like getting married, starting a new job, being-pregnant, or winning an election can also tense us up.
Stress isn’t all bad, either infect, it protects us in many instances by priming the body to react quickly to adverse situations. This fight-or-fight response helped keep human-being alive when their environment demanded quick physical reactions in response to threats.
The problem in modern times is that our body’s stress response is regularly triggered even though our lives are not in danger. Chronic exposure to stress hormones can damage the body.
Every thing from headaches, up-set stomach, skin rashes, hairless, racing heartbeat, back pain and muscle aches can be stress related.
The perception of stress is highly individualized. What jangles your friend’s nerves may not faze you in the least, and vice versa. In other words, what matters most is not what happens to you, but how you react to what happen to you.
THE BEHAVIOURAL EFFECTS OF STRESS
The behavioural effects of an over-stressed lifestyle are easy to explain when under pressure, some people are more likely to drink heavily or smoke, as a way of getting immediate chemical relief from stress.
Others may have so much work to do that they do not exercise or eat properly. They may cut down on sleep, or may worry so much that they sleep badly.
They may get so carried away with work and meeting daily pressures that they do not take him to see to doctor or dentist when they need to. All of these are likely to harm health. The direct physiological effects of excessive stress are more complex. In some areas they are well understood, while in other areas, they are still subject to debate and further research.
EFFECTS OF STRESS: WHAT IS POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder that can occur after living through or seeing a dangerous event. It can also occur after a sudden traumatic event. This can include:
- Being a victim or seeing violent.
- Being a victim of sexual or physical abuse o r assault.
- The death or serious illness of a loved one.
- Fighting in a war.
- It severe car crash or a plane crash.
- Hurricanes, tornadoes and fire.
You can start having PTSD symptoms right after the event. Or symptoms can develop months or even years later. Symptoms may include:
- Night mares.
- Flashbacks, or feeling like the event is happening again.
- Staying away from places and things that remind you of what happened.
- Being irritable, anger, or jumpy.
