Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) Glucose Test
Fasting blood sugar is carried out for determination of glucose level in the blood sample of a patient who is fasting, to monitor disorder of carbohydrate metabolism such as diabetes mellitus, idiopathic hypoglycaemia.
Patients for Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) are advised to fast for a period of 12 hours till the time of sample collection which is between the hours of 7am- 10am. The fasting blood sugar reference range is 76- 110mg/dl for both male and female.
Random Blood Sugar (RBS)
Random blood sugar is a test that can be carried out at any time of the day, irrespective of whether the patient has eaten or not. It is also very important because it gives information about the blood sugar level of a patient.
This test tells weather the patient is heading towards a diabetic condition (very high blood sugar) or towards a condition of hypoglycaemia (very low blood sugar). Random blood sugar reference range is 70- 120mg/dl for both male and female.
