High blood pressure or Blood pressure BP is the blood force against the wall of the arteries and the heart as the blood pump from the heart to the tissues using blood pressure chart. Treatment for hypertension/BP can either be done by medical or nutrition means called dash diet. They are:
- Maintenance of body weight: - The number one risk factor for the development of high BP is overweight.
- Avoid or limit your intake of saturated fat from beef and pork meat, egg, butter in other to avoid heart disease etc
- Moderate use or avoidance of alcohol and caffeine are important for the treatment and prevention of hypertension.
- Avoid excess salt or salt rich foods: - sodium chloride does not contribute to your heart health but increases the risk of heart disease.
- Avoidance of tobacco is also a must.
- Eat foods rich in potassium, calcium, fish oil and magnesium.
Sources of potassium are lean meat, vegetable, fruits, such as avocados, banana, apricots, orange juice, carrots, potatoes, cooked fry bean and peas, peanuts, milk etc.
Sources of calcium: Low fat oil, milk and cheese: dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, canned fish with bones, cooked dried beans and peas, and hard tap water. They all contributes to BP
